FCILEx Duty Advocate (Criminal Proceedings)
Matthew is a Chartered Legal Executive Advocate. Matthew’s view is that working in criminal law is a vocation. He is committed to providing the highest quality service to clients, to help clients understand the technical legal jargon of the criminal justice system and help clients make sense of its processes and procedures. The suspect or defendant is at the heart of the criminal justice system, and it is important to Matthew that those they represent understand what is going on in their case at every step of the investigation or proceedings.
Matthew is a very experienced criminal defence advocate with many years of experience and over those years he has been asked many questions by his clients. Some of those questions have been preceded with the words ‘this may seem like a silly question, but…’ In all of the team’s collective years of experience, not one of them has been asked a ‘silly question’. There are no silly questions. If there is something about a client’s case that is worrying them, or something they do not understand, it is important to Matthew that they ask about it.
Matthew has worked in the legal profession since 1990, first practising Criminal law in 1994 and specialising in Criminal law since 1996. As a Chartered Legal Executive Advocate (Criminal Proceedings) and member of the Law Society’s Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme, Matthew has worked on cases in all courts from the local Magistrates’ Courts to the Court of Appeal, in matters across the entire spectrum of Criminal law, both civilian and military.

“My wife and I wish to thank you for the very sympathetic way in which you defended our son in his recent court case. We are very grateful.”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for defending me on Friday. I just thought it was unbelievable how you picked up the detail and how you delivered it in the courtroom! It looked like a busy day and approaching lunchtime I didn’t know if it would go the wrong way but I thought you were amazing at getting it across, really! Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!”
“Thank you for the kindness, patience and understanding you have shown us over the last few months. “Thank you” is not nearly enough, but we wouldn’t have got through it without your support.”
“I just want to send a thank you to Matthew for helping me today in court, there are no words to express how thankful I am for his not only professional approach during my court case, but also personally helping me through a extremely hard time.”
